Gabby is an easy going fella that is liked by everyone. He got his name because he loves to talk and talk he does to anyone who will listen. Gabby is the friendliest guy on the small island he lives on. It is a wonderful place in the Pacific Ocean near the big islands of Hawaii. The weather is always warm and the island is covered by beautiful plants and flowers. Gabby and his friends feel as if they are living in paradise and most people would agree with them.
Gabby's island is called Splendor Island. It was so lovely there, 
all who visited wanted to stay forever. The island was surrounded by lovely white sand and the water so blue and clear you could see right through to the bottom. You could stand and watch fish swim right by your feet.
Crabs and lobster were daily visitors to the 
beach. They fit right in among the people and loved to get a little sun. None of the visitors ever bothered them and they never pinched a toe in the water. It was a nice friendly arrangement that everyone stuck to.
Surfing was a favorite thing to do on Splendor Island. 
Even Gabby loved to surf and was very good at it. Visitors to the island would stand and watch as Gabby rode the waves, he put on quiet a show. He even won some awards when the surfing competitions came along.
Living on the island was like being on 
vacation every day. Gabby would relax and send his friends e-mails. Then head out to see what was going on that day on the island. Gabby had many friends and would stop and have a conversation with all of them as he pasted by. That is one reason he was so well liked. He never missed saying hi to his friends.
Beautiful sailboats were floating on the water and fish were jumping 
out of the water. Gabby knew this was going to be a wonderful day on Splendor Island. Everywhere he looked were families having fun on the beach. Some were building sand castles and others were just enjoying the sunshine.
Gabby passed a friend named Henry relaxing in his 
hammock. Gabby knew Henry would have to get up soon and head for work. You see, Henry drove the island tour bus. Many people loved to take a ride all around the island and then over the pretty bridge that connected another small island to Splendor Island.
Gabby found his friend Bucky Beaver was hard at 
work building a dam across a small stream he lived by on the island. Everyone knew Bucky was the hardest working fellow on the island. Gabby had seen poor Bucky asleep right were he stood after working all day a few times.
Gabby spent a little time chasing a pretty butterfly, 
knowing he would never catch him, it was all just in fun. Gabby gave up when he reached the banana tree that his buddy Jangle lived in. He hoped he would be home because he wanted to talk to Jangle about a soccer game that Gabby and some of his friends were going to have.
Sure enough, there was Jangle swinging from a branch in the 
tree. Jangle always was the referee for the soccer games. Gabby wanted to get a time set up for the game. He was hoping they wouldn't have a storm hit. When a storm came to the island, they were usually pretty strong and scared everyone quite a lot. Even the flamingos had to hang on to the palm trees to keep from getting blown away!
Soccer was by far Gabby's favorite game. He was pretty 
good at it too. The best player of all was Bucky Beaver. With his wide tail he was really great! He could really do some fancy tricks with a soccer ball! The other friend they played with a lot was Fred the platypus.
Fred also had a nice wide tail that helped him with the ball 
too. He liked it most though for swimming through the water, doing fancy strokes like the backstroke. With his great tail Fred could move very fast through the water. Sometimes he could almost out swim some of the sailboats. At least he had a lot of fun trying.
Mr. Arnold was a vacationer on the island. He 
was sound asleep in a beach chair when Fred went swimming by. Fred, like everyone else really liked Mr. Arnold. He told everyone stories of years ago and how different things use to be. Little things, like how a candy bar that now cost a $1.00 he could get when he was a child for only five cents!
It couldn't have been a prettier day. The sea gulls 
were everywhere. They were so pretty and made such a beautiful sound that everyone felt as though they were is paradise. Another friend, Slim the weasel, was coming down the beach. He looked out for a moment toward the water and wait, what was that? He could have sworn he saw a Mermaid jump up out of the water by the rock edge of the water.
Besides the beauty of the island, was the fact that everyone 
liked and cared for each other. One of the oldest animals on the island was Mosey a very old tortoise who loved to eat green leaves and flowers. Slim especially was fond of Mosey because he was never in a hurry. He just took life as it came. Today Slim had brought something special for Mosey, one of his favorite flowers.
Sometimes Gabby had to keep an eye on Fred. He had a way 
of being a little sneaky. One day he was running off with something trying to hide it but Gabby found out it was just a gift for a girl friend of Fred's and he didn't want the guys to tease him about it. Underneath, Fred was really a nice guy that Gabby and especially Mosey liked a lot!
Gabby was taking a late afternoon break in what he 
called his hot tub. Really it was just an old rain tub but Gabby didn't care it worked just fine for him. Off at a distance he heard Bucky Beaver's evening alarm. Each day he would pound his tail on a log to signal the night time parties were about to begin.
Parties were great on Splendor Island. There were bands for 
dancing and lots of good food. Everyone had a great time and all wished they could stay forever. There were only a few very lucky ones who would live their whole lives on the island. Gabby, Bucky, Fred and Mosey were a few of the very lucky ones!
