Captain Jack is an old seaman, he has spent his whole life on the ocean. Captain Jack is a crab fisherman with a mate named Henry. He is a good man and works hard helping Captain Jack. They make a good living off the sea. Only thing Captain Jack and Henry have to watch out for are the bad sharks that hang around
the boat. Sometimes Henry would jump in the water to take a swim and bath. That wasn't always safe because soon Henry would be circled by some hungry sharks! He would be back on the boat very fast when that happened. Captain Jack always told him,"Henry your going to be lunch for one of those sharks someday".
Captain Jack would turn the boat out to the deep sea and they would head where the crabs would be. There was a whole different world under the water. While crabs walked along the bottom of the ocean many other creatures were all around. A beautiful Orca whale and baby swam by.
On the bottom was a starfish having a stare down with a cute blue fish. Wonder which one is going to give up first? The little blue fish will probably give up soon because starfish are not good to eat. When he moves on he will find some other creatures that would make a good lunch for him. Like the clam showing off her big pretty pearl. Now clams are something a lot of people love to eat.
Their is probably not a lady in the world who wouldn't love to have the pearl she is showing off. Then a couple of nice lobsters are talking with one another. While they are talking, everyone's favorite shark happens by. His name is Dinky and he's a young blue shark. Dinky is a sweet likable shark because he would never hurt people. Dinky is liked by almost all the creatures in the ocean.
He is a sweet little guy who makes lots of friends. Of course there is one thing Dinky can't help. He has to eat small fish. Not Kentucky Fried Chicken, not Big Macs from McDonald's but fish. That's what sharks eat to stay alive. As Dinky swims around he sees many of his friends. The large clam has lots of gossip to tell Dinky about.
Mr. Clam knew a lot about what was happening because he just sat all day and watched everything that was going on in the ocean. His friend Speedy the little shrimp came by everyday to tell Mr. Clam the news. Speedy had heard a bunch of the clams Henry and Captain Jack had caught got away and were giving Henry a pretty hard time.
He threw them back in the ocean and Captain Jack got out his telescope to watch for sharks. He saw a lot of seagulls around the boat which always meant that the sharks were not far behind. Seagulls always show up were food is and they love crabs. Sure enough it wasn't long before a few mean looking sharks showed up.
The sharks follow the seagulls because the seagulls always know where the food is. Henry wasn't going swimming today that's for sure! Meanwhile, down below the surface of the water, Dinky was making a new friend. A smart little clam was telling Dinky that he needed to get a cleaner fish. They are small fish that take care of sharks by staying with them all the time and eating the small sea worms and bugs that get on their skin.
The small fish and the shark take care of each other and become life long friends. You may have heard the saying, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, well that is exactly what they do. The shark keep the small fish from being eaten and the little fish keep him clean of bugs. The clam introduced Dinky to Peapod, a little green cleaner fish and they became instant friends! A life long partnership was beginning.
Dinky's friend the clam was so happy she had introduced Peapod and Dinky, she was blowing heart bubbles! Another little fish showed Peapod how it was done, just hang on to Dinky's side and off they go. Both Dinky and Peapod were very happy with this deal. They were going to be great friends for life.
There were plenty of crabs for Captain Jack and Henry to catch. The ocean is a wonderful place filled with all kinds of animals. It's like another world all by itself. Captain Jack was looking down into the clear water one day and saw a lovely manatee and her sweet baby go by.
Down near the bottom of the floor Dinky was taking a little nap. It had been a long day meeting his new friend Peapod and learning to work together. Captain Jack decided it was getting a little late and maybe he and Henry should turn back for shore. They were pretty far out and had a long way to go back.
Captain Jack turned the boat and he and Henry headed back to shore. They passed a shrimp boat along the way and waved at the skipper who they had known many years. Meanwhile, down below on the ocean floor another world was getting ready for the night.
A crab was cooking up dinner for his family. His brother was waving saying, bring it on Bro! The little yellow seahorse was settling in on a nice piece of seaweed, getting ready for a long nights sleep. The poor starfish was having trouble with a couple of jokers she called Mutt and Jeff, two clams who thought it was fun to play tug of war with the starfish.
The starfish thought she would send Mutt and Jeff up tomorrow to visit Captain Jack and Henry. That might be one way to get rid of them. Really though, the starfish liked Mutt and Jeff, she knew they were only playing around and had never done anything to hurt her. Actually, she kind of likes them but just didn't want them to know that. Let's keep her secret,OK?
Captain Jack was watching for the shore line. He noticed a small fishing boat with a guy who looked like he was going to definitely have fish for supper! He also spotted a pelican fishing with a seagull friend on a pier post talking to him. The seagull was saying I'll share my lunch with you tomorrow, if you share your dinner with me tonight.
Now this was one smart pelican ad he didn't think he could trust the seagull. It was kinda like he was saying, I'll pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today. Those promises don't always work out! If the seagull wanted dinner he better get off his perch and go out and get some!
Captain Jack spotted a sign he knew so well. Also a little friend named Fred the seal. He and Henry were getting close to home for the evening. After all these years Captain Jack knew one thing, what he saw around him was only a very small portion of the world. Back in the ocean was a little blue shark named Dinky and his new life long friend, Peapod. Two creatures who will never be alone again!
GOOD FRIENDS ARE HARD TO FIND--TRY TO NEVER LOOSE ONE!
