Petunia is the sweetest little pig anyone has ever known. She lives on a farm near the beautiful city of Asheville, North Carolina. Farmer Joe Jackson owns the farm and has many animals. He loves them all but Petunia is a favorite of his because she is so sweet. Each spring farmer Joe has a petting zoo he sets up on the farm and invites all the families to bring their children and have a fun day on the farm. Every family always leaves with a huge juicy watermelon and a box of beautiful strawberries. Farmer Joe was everyone's favorite person because he was so sharing and kind.
Farmer Joe and his farm hand Arnie where known as the best farmers in the area. With the juiciest watermelons and sweetest strawberries. None of their guests left without some. Arnie would bring out some of the animals and show the families and children around. All farmer Joe's animals were so gentle, he never worried about a child being hurt. Most animals end up just the way they are treated and Joe and Arnie were very good and kind to them.
Arnie would bring out their horse Hee Haw, it was a pet name farmer Joe had given him when he was just a baby. Hee Haw loved the children, who doesn't love being hugged and petted. Hee Haw would give the kids rides around the farm and they all loved that. Betsy, the cow loved the petting too and always got plenty of it from the kids.
The farm was very pretty with a wind mill on a hill top and beautiful green acres all around. The little black and white sheep always got a lot of attention because they were sisters but two different colors. When you pet them they were very soft and cuddly, not to mention very cute! Today though was Petunia's BIG day. As soon as she heard the rooster crow that morning she jumped right out of bed.
Today after all, was Petunia's birthday and Farmer Joe and Arnie had a big party planned for her. There was nothing Petunia enjoyed more than a party, especially when it was for her! She had her party hat on first thing that morning and was ready to go. Joe and Arnie had lots of fun things planned for her party. Petunia, like all the animals on the farm was a little bit spoiled. She was treated so well.
Some of the kids were keeping an eye on a big chocolate cake in the middle of the table. There was more than enough cake to go around for everyone. On another table was a strawberry frosted pink cake with party hats all around it and candles burning. The farm had two orange Tabby cats named Muffet and Tuffet.
Muffet was so excited she couldn't stop clapping. She had her very own cupcake sitting right in front of her. Tuffet was busy blowing his party whistle. Joe and Arnie had ordered A LOT of pizzas for the party from Mr. Luigi's pizza parlor. Mr. Luigi was very happy. This was the biggest order he had all year. He had to call in extra help to get all the pizzas baked.
People loved to watch Mr. Luigi spin the pizza dough, he was an expert. He was so happy he was spinning and singing all day. The young people who worked for Mr. Luigi, learned from the best and took a lot of pride in the pizzas they made. Everyone agreed they were the best pizza they had ever eaten.
Mr. Luigi was carting the pizza dough to his workers as fast as he could, singing all the while. He even had to pull the large pizza delivery van out of the garage because the normal cars the delivery boys used weren't going to be big enough to handle this large order! He called in his best delivery boy Timmy. He could handle this huge order.
When Timmy started unloading those pizzas the whole house smelled wonderful. Joe and Arnie had gotten every kind of pizza Mr. Luigi makes, so all the kids and their parents could choose their favorite flavor. Next, it was time for games. The kids decided on pin the tail on the donkey. There was only one problem...
The only donkey around was Dooley and he was a live donkey. He was not about to cooperate with this game! Alex who had been trying to pin the tail on Dooley thought he'd switch to the pinata. Besides he wasn't really going to put a pin in Dooley, he liked him to much. The pinata was hanging from the ceiling full of candy. Alex had his bat and was going to take the first swing at the pinata.
Alex found out it wasn't as easy as he had thought. He would swing and swing and nothing seemed to be there. All the kids were cheering and blowing there party whistles to help Alex along. Finally Alex got a solid hit and candy started going everywhere. The kids were laughing and with their party cups picking up candy as fast as they could.
Every child ended up with a full cup of great candy! This was a party both the children and their parents would remember for a long time. Harley, Alex's dad was a great guy that everyone in town liked because he was funny and a great guy, always helping people out with any problem. Boy, could he eat though. He was at the party with Alex and seemed to be inhaling food!
Boomer and Oscar are Joe's dogs and were having a hard time waiting for some cake. To tell the truth, the kids were ready too and many of the parents as well! One little girl had been reaching for a chocolate cake on the table most of the afternoon. Joe saw this and said "let's have cake everyone while we watch Petunia open her presents."
There was a large bunch of presents! Petunia was liked by everyone. She was always so sweet with the children each year when Joe had his petting zoo. There were beautiful presents everywhere. Some with pretty heart balloons and others with many different colors. Petunia was ready to dig in and start opening them right away!
Petunia's best friend Daisy was dancing and having a ball watching Petunia open her presents. Deep down inside she couldn't wait for some of that cake too! Petunia got some great presents and people started getting ready to head for home. Some of the people were getting ready to leave and Joe made sure they had extra cake and pizza to take with them. It was a great day and everyone had a wonderful time.
The parents toasted Joe and Arnie for such a terrific day and thanked them for everything. The children all had such fun that day they were already looking forward to next years petting zoo and Petunia's birthday party. This was certainly a day that none of the children would ever forget. Before they left though, their was one very important thing they must do.
Sing a big happy birthday song to Petunia! Daisy was ready to sing and help Petunia take all her nice presents back to the barn. See, one of the nice thing about having a best friend is you get to share all her stuff. Last, but not least, they got to watch Petunia get to do what she had waited all day long to do. EAT THE WHOLE CHOCOLATE CAKE JOE HAD MADE JUST FOR HER!
KINDNESS TO OTHERS ALWAYS COMES BACK TO YOU IN THE END!
